Abstract A correlation has been derived from analytical solution of mass and momentum balance equations for accurate and rapid estimation of the required minimum external surface area of gas cartridge filters in the petroleum industry. The proposed correlation is especially important for preliminary design of these units regarding gas injection projects and underground storage of natural gas. High replacement costs associated with gas cartridge filters and numerous applications of these units are the most important justifications of the present work. Predicted results and fabricator's recommended data regarding the required minimum external surface area of gas cartridge filters are in good agreement with an average absolute deviation (AAD) of 2.4%. 相似文献

High sulfur level in diesel fuel has been identified as a major contributor to air pollutant in term of sulfur dioxide (SOx) through diesel fueled vehicles. The main aim of the present work is to develop a promising methodology for ultra deep desulfurization of diesel fuel using oxidation followed by phase transfer of oxidized sulfur. Experiments were carried out in a batch reactor using n-decane as the model diesel compound and also using commercial diesel feedstock. To remove sulfur tetraoctylammonium bromide, phosphotungstic acid, and hydrogen peroxide were used as phase transfer agent, catalyst and oxidant respectively. The percent sulfur removal increases with increasing the initial concentration of sulfur in fuel and with increasing the reaction temperature. Similar trends were observed when commercial diesel was used to carry out desulfurization studies. The amphiphilic catalyst serves as a catalyst and also as an emulsifying agent to stabilize the emulsion droplets. The effects of temperature, agitation speed, quantity of catalyst and the phase transfer agent were studied to estimate the optimal conditions for the reactions. The sulfur removal from a commercial diesel by phase transfer catalysis has been found effective and removal efficiency was more than 98%. Kinetic experiments carried out for the desulfurization revealed that the sulfur removal results are best fitted to a pseudo first order kinetics and the apparent activation energy of desulfurization was 30.6 kJ/mol. 相似文献

The present research deals with the production and characterization of geopolymers prepared by mixing metakaolin with a steel slag from the production of chromium-manganese steel, a commercial sodium silicate solution and a sodium hydroxide solution. Different specimens were prepared by mixing metakaolin with different proportions of steel slag (20, 40, 60, 80 wt%) characterized by different maximum particle size. Specimens containing just metakaolin and steel slag alone were also prepared for comparison. All specimens have been characterized regarding their compressive strength, specific surface area, water absorption and microstructure. It has been observed that the use of fine steel slag powders leads to increases the performances and that the specimens containing 40 wt% steel slag and 60 wt% metakaolin revealed the best overall behaviour. 相似文献

A chemo‐biochemical process for desulfurization of simulated natural gas containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was investigated. The results showed that using polyurethane foam as a support for immobilization of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans obtained good biological oxidation performance and the maximum oxidation rate of ferrous iron was 4.12 kg m?3 h?1. Moreover, a semi‐empirical formula was set up for calculating theoretical ferrous oxidation rate as a function of influent Fe2+ and Fe2+ concentration in the bioreactor. The integrated chemical and biological process achieved removal efficiencies of about 80% when treating high concentrations of H2S (15 000 ± 100 ppmv). © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献
